Mendip District Council's Licensing Team is delivering virtual safeguarding sessions to all licensed taxi and private hire drivers in Shepton Mallet.

More than 40 drivers, from across the district, attended the first two specialised courses, with more booked on throughout September and October. The sessions are taking place virtually due to the COVID crisis, they are free and meet the new Statutory Taxi and Private Hire Vehicle Standards.

Plans for a "disproportionate" development in a rural Somerset village have been refused due to concerns about the impact on local roads and amenities.

Gladman Developments put forward plans to build 63 new houses behind the existing properties on Anchor Road in Coleford, located between Frome and Shepton Mallet.

The planning application for the change of use from hotel (C1) to three residential units (C3), including main house, Lower Lodge and Gardeners Cottage at Ston Easton Park Hotel, Bristol Road, Ston Easton, was submitted by Mr A Davis.

Children's Hospice South West (CHSW) is inviting people to remember and celebrate the life of a loved one and raise vital funds for the charity.

A Memories by Moonlight ceremony will be broadcast live on Facebook from CHSW's Little Harbour children's hospice in St Austell at 9pm on Saturday, September 26, giving people the opportunity to light a candle and join together virtually for a special evening of reflection.
