The Senior Coroner for Somerset has confirmed that the woman who died after an incident in Collett Park Pond in Shepton Mallet on Saturday (January 25), was 96 years old.

Avon and Somerset Police were called to reports of a woman in the pond in Collett Park at about 8am on Saturday.

The woman was pulled from the pond and given treatment by ambulance personnel before she was taken to Yeovil District Hospital but sadly she died shortly afterwards.

Today (January 27), Somerset's Senior Coroner Tony Williams said: "I can confirm that the death of a 96-year-old female at Collett Pond, Shepton Mallet, has been reported to my office.

"There are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances and investigations are ongoing."

Mr Williams said he would only release further details, such as the woman's name, if he is required to open an inquest.
