Window Wanderland is running in Shepton Mallet from 25th – 28th November and houses businesses, shops and anyone with a window are invited to join in.
The idea is simple – decorate your windows with a design, picture, some fairy lights or an installation and leave your lights to be part of a magical night trail.
To take part you need to register your window online to form part of the magical trail – details below on how to sign up.
Lots of Shepton Mallet shops and homes have registered their windows already including: The Shepton Cobbler, BMG Accounting, Becky Beauty, Bumblez, Reflex Medical and many others.
St Paul's CofE (VE) Junior School will be decorating all of the front windows in the school, Haskins (who made last year's incredible Anglo design) are again planning an iconic window on the High Street, Tesco are inviting children to bring in snowmen and icicle pictures to decorate the main windows, Whitstone School will be working with artist Flo Lipin to create a window in Haskins, and several other artists have takeovers planned.
The launch event this year will be at Field House Care home – showcasing a design 'Shepton through the Seasons' by artist and set designer Elly Wdowski. The designs will be decorated by residents along with students from St Paul's CofE VC School, Bowlish Infant School and Shepton Mallet Infants.
To coincide with the launch (on the 25th November, exactly one month to Christmas) many Shepton Mallet shopkeepers will be opening late - until 8pm - so you can enjoy some festive shopping and you visit windows and enjoy some entertainment in town.
And it's not too late to get involved. Free community workshops in partnership with Somerset Skills and Learning are taking place at Paul Street Community Rooms on Monday 15th and 22nd November, 10:30 – 12pm.
Come along and collect your free making pack, or get one from Shepton Mallet Library, made possible thanks to support from Shepton Mallet Town Council and Somerset Community Foundation.
Last weekend saw two full workshops of sheep making for Shepton library and an open workshop at Paul Street Community Rooms.
This year the event will run across Shepton Mallet and Evercreech as Make the Sunshine partners with the Old Stores Studio in Evercreech to bring the trail to even more families locally.
Window Wanderland is being run by Make the Sunshine and The Old Stores Studio and supported by Storm Productions Group (who will be lighting Field House Care home and providing technical support) and Haskins. The event is supported by Shepton Mallet Town Council, Somerset Community Foundation and Somerset Skills and Learning, whose support ensures the organisers can bring Window Wanderland, a national and now international movement, to our town.
