What's on in Shepton Mallet this weekend?

From community cafes to sculpting a willow bird, there's plenty happening in Shepton Mallet this weekend to take your mind of the post-Christmas, back-to-work blues.

Here's just a few of the events that caught our eye this week.

Create your own willow bird

You will be helped to create a willow bird of your choice, most often participants choose to make a heron, chicken or pheasant however if you want to make something else bring a photo. The workshop takes place at the new pop up gallery at 8 Town Street, Shepton Mallet.

All materials will be provided, but bring a photo of a bird to inspire you.

Refreshments provided but do bring your own lunch.

10am-2pm £50

Dress warmly as there is only a small fan heater which will not heat the whole space, and dress for mess.

Make your own dragonfly

You will be make a large willow dragonfly which will look beautiful in the garden by a pond or attached to a fence or trellis.

The workshop takes place at the new pop up gallery at 8 Town Street, Shepton Mallet.

All materials will be provided and refreshments provided.

Oakhill Community Cafe

Ashwick and Oakhill Village Hall

Takes place on Saturday, between 9am and midday

Come along for a delicious hot tea, coffee, hot chocolate, or a Bacon Roll or cake.

Well-behaved dogs on leads are welcome

Six more of the UK's top artists all vying for a slot at The 2023 Glasrtonbury Festival. This is the penultimate heat with the last one taking place on January 28th.

Somerset Youth Theatre CIC: Shepton Mallet

Do you love Acting, Drama, Games and all things Theatre? Would you like to make your very own plays alongside the professionals? Then come join Somerset Youth Theatre CIC: Shepton Mallet!

They are a youth theatre community in Shepton Mallet that meet every week on a Thursday, during term time at Paul Street Community Centre, 26 Paul Street, BA4 5LA. When signing up, we ask that members commit to attend every Thursday throughout the term.

Somerset Youth Theatre: Shepton Mallet (6-18 year olds) meet Thursdays 5.00-6.00pm

They provide safe spaces for young people to create, explore and find their voice through Theatre & the Arts and sessions are delivered by professional Artists and experienced facilitators with Enhanced DBS.

Giant Flea Market

The next Giant Flea Market takes place at the Royal Bath and West Showground on 22nd January, with the doors opening at 9.30am,

It will have over 250 inside and outside stalls, selling a plethora of items from:

  • Retro-furniture
  • Vintage clothing
  • Garden statuary
  • Arts & Crafts
  • Jewellery
  • Books
  • Toys
  • Sweets
  • Clothes
  • Music
  • Fabrics and more

Admission: £5.00 per adult, accompanied children free
