Police recorded 69 crimes in Shepton Mallet during February 2025, according to the latest figures from Avon and Somerset Police.

While this represents a drop from the 91 incidents reported in January, violent crime continues to account for more than half of all offences in the town.

Of the crimes logged in February, 39 were categorised as violent offences. This includes incidents such as assault, harassment and threats of violence, and marks only a slight decrease from the 43 violent crimes reported the previous month.

Shoplifting was the second most reported offence in February, with six incidents, followed by vehicle crime and anti-social behaviour, which both saw five reports each. Public order offences—typically involving threatening or abusive behaviour in public places—also accounted for five incidents.

Other crimes reported last month included three cases of criminal damage and arson, three incidents of other theft, one offence involving possession of a weapon, and two crimes recorded under the 'other crime' category, which includes offences such as perverting the course of justice or handling stolen goods.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "While it's encouraging to see an overall fall in reported crime this month, we know that violent offences remain a serious concern in Shepton Mallet. We continue to carry out high-visibility patrols in the town and are working closely with local partners to identify those responsible and offer support to victims.

"We encourage residents to report any concerns to us directly, whether that's via our website, by calling 101, or in an emergency, dialling 999. Community information plays a vital role in helping us respond to and reduce crime in the area."

In January, the town also saw higher levels of theft, with 12 incidents listed as 'other theft', along with eight reports of shoplifting and seven vehicle crimes. The month also included four burglaries, two robberies, and a theft from the person—none of which were reported in February.

Full crime statistics and updates from the local policing team can be found on the Avon and Somerset Police website.
