Vaccine supply issues could see days in early April when Bath and West vaccination centre is closed
The Bath and West Showground vaccination centre, near Shepton Mallet, could be closed on various days in early April due to issues with Covid vaccine supplies.
A reduction in the UK's coronavirus vaccine supply is being predicted for next month, partly due to a delay in a delivery of five million Oxford-AstraZeneca doses from India.
There are reports that India has placed a temporary hold on all exports of the vaccine amid increasing numbers of domestic cases there.
Shepton Mallet Nub News understands that volunteers at the showground vaccination centre have been told they might not be needed between April 1 and 11.
A spokesperson for the Somerset Vaccination Programme has confirmed that arrangements are continuously reviewed and that opening days at the centre will vary over the coming weeks.
The spokesperson told Shepton Mallet Nub News: "There's still time to book your Covid vaccination appointments this week, with lots of slots across the county currently available until the end of March.
"If you are 50 or over, or have a health condition that puts you at greater risk, or a health or social care worker and have not had your first dose, we encourage you to book today online at nhs.uk/covid-vaccination or by phoning 119.
"Over the next few weeks operating days and times at our vaccination sites will flex up and down in line with vaccine supply and bookings, following the JCVI guidance on priority cohorts and when to administer second doses. A small number of appointments may also be rescheduled to alternative days.
"If you already have an appointment over the coming weeks, whether for your first or second dose, this remains in place and it's really important that you attend it as planned. If we need to make any changes to appointments, we will contact you directly."
