Recent developments have emerged regarding the proposed housing scheme on the Midsomerset Show field, with CG Fry and Son Ltd submitting revised plans to the local planning authority.

The initial proposal, outlined in 2018, aimed to introduce a significant residential development to the area.

The key changes proposed include a redesigned southern entrance to improve the initial access point into the development, alongside the relocation of a care home facility, which now proposes an increased number of bed spaces. Additionally, there is a new layout for the local centre, positioned with residential zones behind it, aiming to create a vibrant community hub. The plan also features modified arrangements for the northern access point and optimised land use, which could potentially increase the number of residential units to 620, including a 30% allocation for affordable housing.

In support of these changes, CG Fry and Son Ltd have provided supplementary documents to the submitted initially reports, including addenda to the Planning Supporting Statement and Design and Access Statement, a revised Transport Note, and a Preliminary Ecological Assessment. A new Nutrient Neutrality Assessment and Mitigation Strategy has also been introduced, reflecting the development's commitment to environmental considerations.

The revisions include detailed plans covering access arrangements, pedestrian and cycle paths, land use, building heights, density, landscaping, and an illustrative masterplan.

These documents aim to provide a comprehensive overview of the proposed adjustments and their potential impact on the development and the wider community.

As the local planning authority reviews these updates, stakeholders and residents await further developments with interest, keen to understand how this project will contribute to Shepton Mallet's future landscape.
