Shepton Mallet University of the Third Age (U3A) has announced the speakers for the next four months, and the subjects promise to be as entertaining as they are diverse.

The U3A's March speaker meeting takes place tomorrow (March 5) and will feature Tim Bruce with his talk Changing Things One Pedal at a Time.

He will be speaking about his epic cycle journey of more than 3,000 miles from Seattle to Washington DC in aid of charity.

On Thursday April 2, the speaker will be Dr Francis Burroughes with Seated One Day at the Organ - observations from the organ bench spanning 60 years.

The May meeting will be a week later than normal, on May 14, with the speaker as Dave Hartnell on A Trip Across California, Arizona and Utah.

Then on Thursday June 4, speaker Brian Wright will talk on Humpty Dumpty Sat on a Wall, which looks at the hidden history of nursery rhymes.

It will be preceded by the Shepton Mallet U3A Annual General Meeting at 10am.

All the speaker meetings take place in the Council Chamber, Mendip District Council Offices,

Cannard's Grave Road, Shepton Mallet BA4 5BT.

Doors open at 10am, all meetings start at 10.30am. Admission: members £1.50 – guests £2.50.
