Three venues in Shepton Mallet will be taking place in the two-week long Somerset Art Weeks Festival 2019 from this Saturday (September 21).
The festival is a celebration of art across the county, and this year it marks its 25th anniversary by seeing venues the length and breadth of Somerset taking part.
In Shepton Mallet, the venues will be Shepton Mallet Prison, The Art Bank in the High Street and Pilton Cider on the Anglo Trading Estate.
At the prison, there will be site-responsive works in B-Wing from six artists. They are Fiona Campbell (sculptural installations using found and recycled materials), Luminara Star (examining The Other through iconic folk images translated into contemporary art forms), Lou Baker (soft sculptures and participatory installations making public things that are normally private), Lucy Large (sculptural installations exploring human and material relationships), Scott Sandford (immersive and abstract still and moving images which disrupt perceptions of time and place), and Rosie Jackson (poetry and memoir writing as a way of healing and creativity for all).
The Art Bank will see the work of three artists - Dimitris Koutroumpas, who uses reclaimed books and magazines to create live book gardens and collage; Jacqueline Adams, who upcycles discarded materials in works of sculptural art; and Lucy Alexander, whose aesthetic is informed by a love of colour and line.
Pilton Cider will see is own Martin Berkeley present a label design exhibition, and he will be joined by Angela Morley, who uses willow and ceramics to blur the boundaries between art and craft.
All three venues are open every day during the festival, from September 21 to October 6, with the prison open from 10am to 5pm, The Art Bank from 10am to 4pm, and Pilton Cider from 11am to 5pm.
