Shepton is known for its stunning countryside and rich history, but it is also home to a thriving community of diverse cultures and cuisines.

This spring, the town will be hosting a World Food & Drink Workshop, funded by Shepton Mallet Town Council.

The event, organised by Amber Smithwick, co-founder of Aurora Kusina, a Filipino restaurant in the town, aims to celebrate the amazing communities and surrounding communities.

The World Food & Drink Workshop promises to be a unique and exciting event that will transport visitors to different parts of the globe through the power of food and drink.

From Brazil to India, Greece to Ukraine, local key speakers will demonstrate dishes inspired by these wonderful countries.

The event is free to attend, and visitors do not need to book in advance. Everyone is welcome, including children, for whom there will be coloring facilities available.

The event will feature key speakers demonstrating how to make their inspired dishes or drinks.

Visitors can watch as they create dishes such as Filipino Mango & Tomato Salsa, Ukrainian Dill Pickle, Indian Apple Chutney, Greek Salad & Tzatziki, and Brazilian Caipirinha Cocktail (including an alcohol-free option).

  • 10am | Amber, Aurora Kusina – Filipino Mango & Tomato Salsa
  • 11am | Craig, The Good Life Projects – Ukrainian Dill Pickle
  • 12noon | Marguerite, The Tiffin Club – Indian Apple Chutney
  • 1pm | Melanie, The MAZI Project – Greek Salad & Tzatziki

After the demonstrations, visitors can pick up a pre-made bag of ingredients and a step-by-step guide to recreate the dishes at home. Visitors can drop in for one session or stay for all of them.

The World Food & Drink Workshop will conclude with drinks and nibbles, offering a chance for visitors to connect with new people. The event will take place on a Saturday, and visitors can head to the Market Cross afterward to join the Sheptopoly finale.

This event is not just a celebration of food and drink, but a celebration of the diversity of cultures that exist within Shepton Mallet and its surrounding areas.

The World Food & Drink Workshop is funded by Shepton Mallet Town Council in support of Ukrainian refugees in the community - the event is set to be a testament to the power of food in bringing people together and celebrating our differences.
