The East Somerset Railway (ESR) is set to host a bumper Steam Gala on March 21 and 22 with five engines in steam.

On loan from Dartmouth Steam Railway, newly arrived small Prairie 4555 will be making its first appearance at Cranmore.

5239 Goliath, recently returned to service following an overhaul at the ESR, takes its final outing on the Cranmore line before returning to the Dartmouth Steam Railway.

An ESR stalwart of many years, 5637 will be bidding farewell to its Somerset base as it heads off for pastures new.

Regulars Ivatt 46447 and 1719 Lady Nan will also be operating throughout the weekend with the latter offering Driver For a Tenner experiences in the sidings next to the Engine Shed.

Trains leave Cranmore each day as follows:

  1. 00 5637 & 5239
  2. 50 4555
  3. 40 46447
  4. 30 4555 & 5239
  5. 20 5637
  6. 10 46447
  7. 00 5637 & 4555
  8. 50 5239

The Whistlestop Cafe will be offering hot and cold snacks and drinks. The David Shepherd Discovery Centre will be open and, weather permitting, the Miniature Railway will be running for a charge of £1 per person.

The Engine Shed will be open for viewing the restoration and maintenance work undertaken by our volunteers.

Standard fares apply: Adult £11, Concession £10, Child £9, 2 Adult, 2 Children Family £34 and 1 Adult, 2 Children Family £25. Day rover vouchers accepted.
