As we gear up for the Glastonbury Festival, things are a bit quieter across the area this weekend.

So we've cast our net a little wider to bring you the best events happening in Street, Glastonbury, Wells, and Shepton Mallet.

Here's your fun-filled guide to what's on:

First up, for the culture vultures among you, the Ammerdown Centre in Radstock is hosting a special day course on Saturday, 22nd June, dedicated to the life and work of John O'Donohue. Titled "A Day of Blessings," the course will focus on what John called the 'lost art of blessing'. Expect a day filled with reading, sharing, writing, music, and ritual. The day includes morning coffee, lunch, and afternoon tea, all for £60. More details can be found here.

For those looking for a night of laughter and glamour, our sponsors, the Bath and West Showground have you sorted. Head over to the Wessex Pavilion for "An Evening With Danny Beard" on Saturday, 22nd June. Hosted by local queen Alex Ambiguous, this event promises comedy, performance, games, and your chance to strut your stuff on the runway. The highlight of the evening will be a full performance by Danny Beard, the bearded queen who won RuPaul's Drag Race UK. Tickets also include a meet and greet with Danny and Alex. Get ready for a night of cheekiness and glamour! More details here.

Music lovers are in for a treat with the "The Chorus of Disapproval Summer Solstice Concert 2024" at Wells Town Hall on Friday, 21st June. Featuring The Portraits, this concert promises an evening of irresistible and irrepressible music. Tickets are £7, with concessions at £5, and are available on the door. There's also a bar available to keep you refreshed throughout the evening. More details here.

If comedy is more your thing, don't miss "Instant Wit" at Bishop's Barn in Wells on Friday, 21st June. This night of improvised comedy includes songs, gags, and plenty of silliness, all based on audience suggestions. Whether it's a lament about a hamster on Tinder or a Shakespearean scene in a dry cleaner's, you're in for a wild ride. Remember, this is live and unedited comedy at its best! Find more information here.

On Saturday, 22nd June, Wells Cathedral will host "The Armed Man - Come & Sing with Sir Karl Jenkins." This annual event invites singers from Somerset and beyond to join in a day of rehearsing and performing excerpts from "The Armed Man," under the direction of Alexander Hamilton. The composer himself, Sir Karl Jenkins, will be present to share insights into his popular work. Don't miss this unique opportunity! More details here.

For those with a mystical bent, the Glastonbury Pagan Moot at Beckets Inn is presenting Peter Nash's talk on "Spells and How They Work" on Saturday, 22nd June. Peter will share tips on magical work, anecdotes, and practical advice. This rare talk by one of the last "first line" Alexandrians is not to be missed. Donations are welcome but not required. Find more information here.

And that's not all! Don't miss:

  • Gardna @ The King Arthur, Glastonbury on Saturday, 22nd June, from 8:00pm to 11:59pm.
  • Blackberry Wood @ The King Arthur, Glastonbury on Friday, 21st June, from 8:00pm to 11:00pm.
