As Shepton Mallet gears up for a weekend filled with culture, entertainment, and community activities, the town is also looking forward to the return of the Royal Bath & West Show, set to get underway in just a few weeks.

This weekend in Shepton Mallet, our sponsors the Bath & West Showground, becomes a haven for mineral enthusiasts with the Rock, Gem 'n' Bead Show running from Saturday to Sunday.

Meanwhile, music lovers can enjoy an evening with Monique Clare at The Art Bank Cafe, where cello melodies will fill the air on Friday night. For those with a green thumb, the Outdoor Raised Beds Sessions at Eco Food Creations Ltd on Saturday provide a perfect opportunity to learn about sustainable gardening.

Adding a dash of fun and fitness to the weekend, "Shepton Get Ur Skates On" at the Shepton Mallet Leisure Centre invites primary school age children and upwards to enjoy a roller disco every Friday afternoon, running from 5:30 to 7:00 PM during term time.

For those interested in gardening, a ten-week course on basic gardening skills continues this Friday at 10 Market Place. Running from 6:30 to 7:30 PM, the course covers everything from soil understanding and cultivation techniques to garden design, aiming to empower participants with the skills to beautify their gardens on a budget.

But things are a little quiet this weekend with people anticipating the return of the Royal Bath & West Show, scheduled from 30th May to 1st June.

This event promises to balance traditional attractions with new innovations. Regular favourites such as the Pony Club Games, Heavy Horses, and Showjumping will take place alongside the thrilling Jamie Squibb Freestyle Motorbike Stunt Show.

The Horticulture Village is set to impress again this year, featuring the Pop-Up Gardens Competition with a focus on sensory awareness and sustainable living.

The food and drink scene will be highlighted by The Great British Kitchen, featuring demonstrations from renowned chefs like Clodagh McKenna and Rosemary Shrager, and an opening day appearance by Rachel Khoo.

New to the show for 2024 is the 'Bark & West', dedicated to pet lovers, featuring agility rings and displays. The show will also host special appearances, including Love Island's Farmer Will and a performance from The Wurzels, ensuring that the Royal Bath & West Show remains a must-visit for families looking for a fun and educational day out.

Visitors can book tickets at www.bathandwest.com. Whether you're a local or just passing through, Shepton Mallet has a weekend packed with diverse activities to enrich your spring calendar.
