Shepton Mallet is preparing for a decidedly more colourful invasion this month as the Brick Festival returns to the Bath & West Showground on Sunday, 20 September.

The six-hour event runs from 10 am to 4 pm and is aimed at families, collectors, adult builders and anyone whose idea of a relaxing afternoon involves several thousand tiny plastic bricks and the occasional frantic search for one very specific piece.

Visitors can expect large-scale displays, speed-building competitions and hands-on activities, alongside traders selling loose bricks, new and retired sets, minifigures and accessories.

There will also be a dedicated building area for visitors who would rather make something themselves than simply admire everyone else's handiwork.

Early-entry tickets allow access from 10 am and cost £13 per person. They include an extra hour inside the festival and a free LEGO gift for each early-entry ticket holder.

Standard admission costs £8 for adults and £6 for children, while a family ticket for two adults and two children costs £20. Under-fives can enter free with a paying adult and do not need their own ticket.

Carers accompanying somebody who requires assistance can also enter free of charge.

Standard ticket holders should check the entry time shown on their ticket, as only early-entry customers are admitted from 10 am.

The festival is organised by Brick Festival Events and is one of a series of brick-themed events staged around the country.

The organisers say it is designed to appeal both to committed collectors and families simply looking for something different to do, with the mix of displays, competitions and shopping ensuring there is rather more to the day than standing around admiring somebody else's Millennium Falcon.

Tickets are available through the event's booking page, with organisers advising visitors to book ahead.
