Shepton Mallet Prison asbestos witness appeal
By Laura Linham 4th Jun 2026
Shepton Mallet Prison
Court Ash House, Old Cattle Market, Yeovil
I act on behalf of the family of the late Keith Lusty who worked as a Prison Service Officer and was diagnosed with mesothelioma at the age of 71.
My client was exposed to asbestos whilst working in the basement areas of the Shepton Mallet prison where sexual offenders transferred from Dartmoor were held. He remembers seeing a lot of old damaged asbestos lagged pipework and dust, along with appalling working conditions, including rodents causing damage to asbestos lagging. He remembers working near the boiler house where workmen would come in and out in their dusty overalls, repairing and maintaining asbestos lagged pipework. He worked constantly in a dusty environment and unwittingly breathed in asbestos dust during each shift.
He also worked for the Avon & Somerset Probation Service at Court Ash House, which was a former electrical components factory. Court Ash House was undergoing refurbishment at the time, and he was exposed to old asbestos building materials.
If you worked at either of these places at any time, and have any comments or information on the asbestos there, or poor working conditions, then please contact Helen Grady, specialist mesothelioma Solicitor for Somerset on 01278 664 064 (7 days per week 8 am to 7pm), or email: [email protected]. Your call and information provided will be treated anonymously and in confidence.
You can also contact Helen Grady at Amicus Law if you have been diagnosed with an asbestos-related respiratory condition and are looking for some free initial advice or information.
