Somerset Highways have clarified the access and diversion plans for when the A361 closes through Shepton Mallet next month for resurfacing work.

The A361 is going to be closed from 7.30am to 5.30pm from August 27 to 29, from the Charlton Crossroads towards town, to the junction with Frithfield Lane and Frithfield Walk.

A Somerset County Council spokesperson said there will be a diversion for local traffic requiring access, and another main diversion for all other traffic.

The local diversion will direct motorists around the roadworks via the A37, into Town Lane and then into Frithfield Lane, and vice versa for traffic travelling the other way.

The main diversion will direct traffic along the A37 into Cannard's Grave Road and the A371, round to the police station roundabout, and vice versa.

Regarding access for residents and businesses during the work, the spokesperson said: "Local access will be maintained wherever possible – we recommend speaking to the staff on site if anyone has any particular requirements."
