Recording 739 road accidents in 2022, just a notch above the previous year's 735, Somerset demonstrates a sustained focus on road safety, significantly down from the 994 incidents in the pre-pandemic era.

The detailed analysis of 2022's road incidents in Somerset reveals a concerning aspect: 20 of these accidents were fatal, and 155 led to serious injuries.

In total, these incidents tragically affected 201 people through death or serious harm.

56% of the casualties were vehicle occupants, followed by 22% motorcyclists, 12% pedestrians, and 11% pedal cyclists.

Commenting on the statistics, a police spokesperson said: "While we're relieved to see a stabilisation in the number of road accidents in Somerset, each incident is a stark reminder of the risks on our roads.

"We encourage all road users to remain vigilant. Every accident avoided is a potential life saved."
