Bookbarn in Hallatrow is expanding its bespoke designer service after providing books for the forthcoming His Dark Materials TV series.

Bookbarn's Books by the Yard service sells books to collectors, home designers and set dressers in the United States, Australia and China as well as a thriving UK market.

As well as providing books for the forthcoming series based on Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials series, books from Bookbarn also featured on the Netflix show Sex Education 2.

Chief executive Nick Bates said Bookbarn was looking to take its service to the next level by expanding its overseas market.

"We have already supplied highly authentic and historically accurate books for TV and theatre productions as well as the Being Brunel exhibition on the ss Great Britain," he said.

"We have worked with designers at the BBC, Pinewood Studios, London's Young Vic Theatre and the ss Great Britain Museum.

"Bookbarn is now finalising a deal to send texts to a bookshop in South Western Australia and to supply a bookseller in Taiwan as well as contacts in Shandong province in mainland China. We have also supplied 11 yards of books for a luxury villa in Ibiza."

Bookbarn provided 90 ft of books to dress sets for the latest series of Luther - and has also supplied period books for Outlander and Doctor Who.

Mr Bates said: "But now we are looking to build our business connections with hotels and restaurants and designers in the United States who are looking for bespoke, heritage books to complete their furnishings.

"In China, there is strong demand for Shakespeare, classics, old bibles and antique books. We are fulfilling our mission in Thinking Global, Acting Local."

Bookbarn's bulk book ordering service is specially designed to deliver hand-picked selections of books – and with more than 750,000 books in stock at the Hallatrow headquarters, they can supply books of any shape, size or period.

Mr Bates said: "Books by the Yard provides books by age, colour, binding, genre and more.

"We have already fulfilled individual orders from across the world for more than 10,000 books, for your own instant library, to fill the shelves of a show home or hotel room."

Founded in 2000, Bookbarn is one of the largest booksellers in the UK, shipping orders from the warehouse in rural Somerset to customers all over the world daily.
