Shepton’s Victorian brewery opens for Halloween ghost hunt
By Laura Linham 29th Oct 2026
Shepton Mallet's former Anglo-Bavarian Brewery will become the setting for an overnight ghost hunt this Halloween, with visitors exploring the building until 2am.
Ghost Hunt Events is holding the adult-only event on Saturday, 31 October, starting at 8pm. The programme includes small-group vigils, recording experiments and time for participants to investigate independently.
The organiser describes reports of unexplained voices and footsteps at the site. These are paranormal claims rather than established evidence of ghostly activity.
The Commercial Road building has a substantial history without any supernatural additions. Built in 1864 for Morris, Cox and Clarke of London, the former brewery is Grade II* listed.
Its limestone frontage includes two five-storey towers, with long ranges extending behind the main building. Historic England's listing records its later use as warehouses under the Anglo Trading Estate name.
The Halloween event offers an opportunity to spend the night inside part of that industrial landmark. Activities listed by the organiser include séances, Ouija boards and the use of electronic equipment.
Tickets cost £55 per person, with attendance restricted to over-18s. No accommodation is provided.
The organiser warns that floors are uneven and can be slippery, and says the event is unsuitable for people with limited mobility. Visitors are advised to wear warm clothing and comfortable, flat footwear.
Further details and booking information are available on the Ghost Hunt Events website.
