Police will be showing the skate park at Shepton Mallet some extra attention after complaints about littering, graffiti on the shelters, and even indications of attempted arson.

"We've been alerted by residents about the state of the park, including arson attempts, which is highly concerning," said a police spokesperson.

In response to the community's appeal, the local police force and the town council have devised a proactive plan. First, there will be an increased emphasis on dialogue with skaters and park users, focusing on the importance of using bins for disposing of litter.

Secondly, the police will maintain their regular patrols in the park, targeting and discouraging antisocial behaviour. Finally, they will work collaboratively with the Shepton Town Council, encouraging park users to participate in discussions about the refurbishment of the shelters.

"We're committed to working in tandem with the town council to ensure the park remains a safe and enjoyable environment for everyone. Our strategy includes not just policing, but a conscious effort to engage and educate users," the police spokesperson added.
