Shepton Mallet has rallied impressively in support of revitalising the Amulet Theatre.

A recent public survey has shown tremendous backing for the project, with over 330 responses, 87% of which are in favour of reopening the Amulet as a community venue.

The enthusiasm doesn't stop there; over 50 individuals have stepped forward to help.

This push for revival is a response to the theatre's limited public use since its shift to private ownership in 2011.

The survey, part of a broader initiative to gauge and confirm community support, is crucial for the next steps, which include developing a robust business plan and applying for grant funding. Interested individuals can still participate in the survey at buytheamulet.org.uk.

Eligible for funding from the Community Ownership Fund, the project requires strong community support and a viable business plan. Residents have the opportunity to invest through share purchases, with additional funding from grants, loans, and donations.

Supporters of this initiative include the Town Council, Plunkett Foundation, Department for Levelling Up, Power to Change, Theatres Trust, and the Architectural Heritage Fund. Their collective expertise ranges from government support to historic building preservation.

Plans for the Amulet include a diverse range of uses, with the ground floor potentially hosting craft markets, art workshops, a museum, tourist information, and a café. The first floor could see a return of theatre, cinema, and live music.
