Window Wanderland launches in Shepton Mallet on Thursday (March 5) and it will see the Anglo Trading Estate illuminated in full Technicolour for the opening night.
The launch at the Anglo will be open from 7pm with the official switch on at 7.15pm. On display at the Anglo will be windows created by students from St Paul's Junior School and residents from Field House care home who worked together to choose and design some iconic figures that represent Shepton's history.
The designs pick up important historical features of Shepton, its mill industries, as the birthplace of snowdrops, as well as its more recent history as the filming location for Paddington 2, which stars Madeline Harris who lived in Shepton Mallet and went to school at Whitstone.
As well as the illuminated windows for the launch evening, visitors will be able to see the Anglo building lit up in magnificent lights designed and managed by local firm Storm Productions Group.
The programme has been organised by Make the Sunshine CiC, the Art Bank and the Rubbish Art Project, and as well as this launch at the Anglo, many of Shepton's key businesses and organisations will be creating illuminated displays.
There are four key windows which have been created with the community:
Shepton Mallet Library designed by Mandy McKenna, created by families in half term.
Tesco designed by Fiona Campbell and created with support from Knit and Chat.
The Art Bank designed by Dimitiris Koutroumpas and created by the local community.
The Anglo Trading Estate designed by Elly Wdowski created with students from St Paul's and Field House care home residents
A map will be available on the launch night for visitors to go off and explore the windows created for the trail and lots of shops, organisations and homes have registered to join the trail which runs from Thursday to Sunday (March 8) from 6pm to 9pm.
This is a free community event for all the family. All you need to do is to register your windows is click on the red button below.
Window Wanderland, started in Bristol, aims to turn windows into a night-time gallery by creating illuminated displays.
Window Wanderland in Shepton Mallet has been made possible thanks to support from Somerset County Council Improving Lives Fund, Wells Festival of Literature, Mendip District Council, Storm Productions Group, Haskins, Tesco and Right Price DIY as well as support from partner organisations and artists.
