The town's CCTV system, now funded by Shepton Mallet Town Council, will continue to provide 24/7 surveillance to ensure public safety.

Shepton Mallet Town Council has taken action to ensure the town's CCTV services continue uninterrupted, agreeing to fund the system under a new arrangement with Somerset Council.

Somerset Council's financial emergency earlier this year had put the future of Shepton Mallet's CCTV coverage at risk.

To maintain this essential service, Shepton Mallet Town Council has committed to covering most of the costs involved in its operation.

At a Full Council meeting on 25th June, councillors voted to enter into a Service Level Agreement with Somerset Council. This agreement ensures that all cameras will remain fully operational and monitored 24/7.

The funding for this initiative has already been ringfenced, so it will not incur additional costs for maintaining the current system. Somerset Council will continue to manage the cameras at Great Ostry and Commercial Road car parks, while the Town Council will cover the expenses for the rest of the system. The CCTV network includes coverage around the town and in Collett Park.
