Shepton Mallet Town Council Chairman's Column: Details of Christmas lights switch-on event

As I write this, your Town Council are preparing for one of the largest agendas for one of our meetings in quite some time.

There are many exciting decisions that we will take and updates we will receive. Of course, as you read this the meeting will have happened, but I will discuss the outcomes in more detail next week. Something for you to all look forward to!

The town's bunting has been taken down in preparation for the hanging of the Christmas lights and installation of the Christmas tree. Excitingly, the Town Council are planning to bring back the 'switch on' event for the Christmas tree lights. You can join us in the Market Place from 18:30 on Friday December 3rd for Christmas music from a silver band, mulled cider and mince pies from the Rotary Club.

In terms of activities for everyone as part of our 'Winter Series' programme, we're into week 2 already and barely down the list! Later today from 1pm you can help the Art Bank create their giant Christmas Wreath ahead of it's unveiling at the Christmas tree Lights Switch on. Then later on tonight is the launch of Window Wanderland. The Town Council are taking part again this year so be sure to come and view our spectacular illuminated window at 1 Park Road – the bay window by our front door.

This weekend you can take part in a free workshop at the Library to decorate the Library for Christmas, and then take part in the Forest Garden Planting at Meadow Rise with the Forest Food Project. You can view the entire Winter Series programme via our website at www.sheptonmallet-tc.gov.uk/winter and also follow it on our social media channels. Search for 'Shepton Mallet Town Council' across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

Until next time,

Matt Harrison

Chair, Shepton Mallet Town Council
