Shepton Mallet Town Council Chairman's Column: Event season in full swing

By Guest 25th Nov 2021

Event season is well and truly underway and a week last Saturday saw the Rotary organise another fantastic fireworks display at the West Shepton Playing Fields.

With sponsorship from the Glastonbury Festival meaning the gate fees are able to go to local causes, it was exciting to hear it was the busiest event the Rotary has put on for years!

On a much more sombre note, it was an honour to lay a wreath last Sunday at our Cenotaph in memory of those from the town who have fallen in war. Again, it was encouraging to see so many townsfolk come and pay their respect and even with the Covid-enforced hiatus last year, it felt as poignant as ever to hear the town fall silent in respect.

With just over a month to go before Christmas (unbelievable I know!) the Winter Series of events in town continues apace. The Art Bank has run a giant Christmas Wreath making workshop. Saturday sees Lego Club held in the library and on Sunday the Chapel Dance Studio is taking part in the nationwide Tapathon! There are loads of events coming up so check out the full schedule and details for all events on our website at www.sheptonmallet-tc.gov.uk/winter.

Have a lovely weekend.

Until next time,

Matt Harrison

Chair, Shepton Mallet Town Council
