Are you looking for something to do at the weekend in Shepton Mallet with friends or family? A free activity that explores our town and gets you out and about?

Yesterday saw the launch of the Shepton Mallet Heritage Trails. This is a major, free, permanent feature to our town that is open to all.

Using a dedicated free to download app, the heritage walks provide you with an immersive experience all about the historical threads which have impacted our town, bringing heritage to life.

You can download the app via our website or by scanning the QR code on the Heritage Trails board in the Market Place.

There are eight walks in total, all starting from the Market Place. The walks are: Town centre trail, Cloth and grain trail, Education trail, Religion trail, Children's trail, Brewing trail, Trade and Industry trail and the People of note trail.

All you need to do is scan the QR code on the sign outside the library in the Market Place using your smartphone, download the app and your phone should do the rest! It's compatible with Android and Apple operating systems and available at all hours.

I would like to thank the Darshill and Bowlish Conservation Society for coming up with the idea and co-ordinating the writing and implementation of this project and in particular, Alan, Ian and Chris for their contributions.

I've only had the chance to try one trail so far so look forward to trying the rest; make sure you share your pictures of the trails with us across social media - look for SheptonMalletTC across Facebook, Twitter and Instagram!

Until next time,

Matt Harrison

Chair, Shepton Mallet Town Council
