A series of free community walks will take place every Sunday in January and on New Year's Day in Shepton Mallet, offering residents the chance to get outdoors, stay active, and connect with others.

Organised in partnership with Shepton Mallet Town Council, the Shepton Walks: Beat the January Blues programme aims to shake off the cobwebs and tackle isolation with walks of varying lengths and difficulty. Walkers of all ages and abilities are welcome.

The walks start from the Market Cross in Shepton Mallet and will run as follows:

  • 1 January: Blow away the cobwebs
  • Start: 11am
  • Length: Approx. 3.2 miles
  • This walk includes footpaths and some road walking, with uneven and possibly muddy terrain. Walking boots or wellies are recommended.
  • 5 January: Station to Station and Beyond
  • Start: 10am
  • Length: Approx. 4.5 miles
  • A cross-country route with several steep and muddy sections, requiring good fitness and sturdy walking boots.
  • 12 January: Clean Sweep for the New Year!
  • Start: 10am
  • Length: Approx. 2.5 miles
  • A litter-picking walk along paved paths. Equipment will be provided.
  • 19 January: Geology Walk
  • Start: 10am
  • Length: To be confirmed
  • 26 January: The Making of Windsor Hill Tunnels
  • Start: 10am
  • Length: Approx. 4 miles

Organisers recommend wearing weather-appropriate footwear with good grip and encourage participants to email [email protected] with any questions. Full details can be found here.
