Shepton Mallet house prices sit mid-table across Somerset
By Laura Linham 9th Feb 2026
The average price paid for a home in Shepton Mallet last year places the town firmly in the middle of Somerset's property market, according to the latest postcode-level figures.
Homes in the BA4 postcode, which covers Shepton Mallet and surrounding areas, sold for an average of £345,475 in the 12 months to the end of December 2025. That figure is higher than neighbouring towns including Glastonbury and Street, but well below the county's most expensive areas.
By comparison, the cheapest place to buy a home in Somerset was Yeovil (BA21), where properties sold for an average of £242,995. At the other end of the scale, Wedmore (BS28) recorded the highest average sale price at £610,393, a gap of almost £400,000 between the cheapest and most expensive postcode areas.
Figures show that prices in Shepton Mallet have remained broadly stable, with the BA4 area recording a 0.1 per cent increase year-on-year. That contrasts with sharper falls in places such as Dulverton and Castle Cary, and stronger growth in parts of Puriton and Yeovil.
Across Somerset, towns such as Wells (£386,918), Frome (£380,241) and Bruton (£382,106) all recorded higher average sale prices than Shepton Mallet, while areas including Street (£291,960) and Castle Cary (£291,262) remained more affordable.
The data highlights the significant variation in house prices across the county, even between neighbouring towns, as buyers continue to weigh affordability against location and amenities.
