A carnival club based in Shepton Mallet has raised hundreds of pounds at a special fete that was organised to boost the illuminated processions across the county.

Highwayman Carnival Club raised the money through their Take It or Leave It stall at the Frome Carnival Fun Day in Victoria Park.

The aim of the day was to raise much needed funds for local carnivals, and with coronavirus stopping lots of events it was a chance to fill up the fundraising buckets for many organisations.

Chairperson of Highwayman CC, Casey Spearing, said: "I am very proud to say that the event was a massive success and the Frome committee did an amazing job in hosting and organising the event.

"We are looking forward to returning next year bigger and better with more prizes.

"Highwayman Carnival Club would like to thank the public for supporting the event and supporting our Take It or Leave It game, helping us to raise £231.89.

"This will be used to go towards building our entry for next year."

The carnivals in Somerset have been cancelled for 2021, for the second year running, due to the pandemic, though it is hoped they will all return in 2022.
