Major roadworks are scheduled to take place at The Beacon crossroads near Shepton Mallet next week, including road closures and temporary traffic lights.

Old Frome Road is set to be closed either side of the crossroads where it meets the A37 from Monday (August 10) to August 21.

Heading towards Masbury, it should be closed to Golf Links Lane, and in the other direction it is due to be shut for 150 metres, meaning it will be possible to visit Beacon Hill Woods, if you come from the Waggon and Horses direction.

On the A37 itself, there are scheduled to be temporary traffic lights at the junction from 6.30pm on Monday to 7am on Wednesday (August 12).

These measures are set to be used to enable Somerset County Council to carry out surfacing, stud installations, signing, lining, vegetation clearance and other associated works.

Other roadworks scheduled to take place in Shepton Mallet next week include:

Coombe Lane is set to be closed between 8am and 5pm from Monday to Wednesday, to enable M J Quinn to carry out telecommunication works on behalf of BT.

The temporary traffic lights on the B3136 Waterloo Road for Wessex Water to carry out a sewer investigation and jetting work are due to be in place until Tuesday (August 11).

Multi-way temporary traffic lights at the junction of Whitstone Road and Whitstone Rise, in use while Wales and West Utilities upgrade a gas main, are scheduled to remain in place until September 14.

The permit for scaffolding at The Cottage in Ham Lane is set to run until August 26.

From Friday (August 14) to August 17, Bristol Water are due to be working in Princes Road.

Western Power Distribution's work to install a new supply in Hillmead is scheduled to be completed by Tuesday.

Finally, Western Power Distribution's work to repair a cable fault in Elm Way is set to be finished by Thursday (August 13).
