Police have issued a formal warning to a driver following complaints about anti-social driving around Station Road in Shepton Mallet.

The neighbourhood policing team said residents had reported motorists driving carelessly and inconsiderately in the area, causing disturbance and concern for people living nearby.

Following recent reports and investigations, officers have now issued one driver with a Section 59 warning over anti-social vehicle use.

The warning gives police powers to seize a vehicle if it continues to be driven in a way which causes alarm, distress or annoyance.

Police said the behaviour being reported on Station Road was not only disruptive to residents but could also put pedestrians and other road users at risk.

Officers are asking people who witness anti-social driving to continue reporting it rather than assuming someone else has already done so.

Vehicle registration numbers, descriptions, times of incidents and dashcam footage can all help police investigate reports and take further action.

The neighbourhood team said: "We would like to thank members of the public for reporting incidents and encourage anyone who witnesses anti-social driving to continue reporting it to us."

Police added that information from residents can be "invaluable" in helping officers identify those involved and take positive action.
