School growth at Oakhill

Oakhill Church School is growing fast, with a new nursery, log cabin library, sensory garden, chicken run, and even these green beans sprouting up on site.

Recently the village school in Oakhill celebrated its recent expansion project with a Community Open Afternoon.

Children enjoyed bouncy castles, home-made pizzas, and the new climbing wall in the large school field.

There was also a bar and a barbecue for the adults, alongside tours of the school and grounds to see the new and improved facilities.

With more spaces for younger children, the school is growing in numbers too - and parents say they are very happy with what they see.

"The new nursery with its sandpit and outdoor play areas is wonderful," said parent Alexandra Pearce from Shepton Mallet.

"It's so convenient to drop my children for school and nursery in the same place, have them enjoy the same cooked meal at lunch time, and to know that the transition from nursery to school will be very straightforward too."

"The most important thing growing here at Oakhill Church School is the minds of our children," said headmaster Phillip Morris.

"And we are creating a beautiful, safe, and sustainable environment for them to do that. We are thrilled to welcome children from as young as two now and to introduce all our children to a growing world - both in their lessons and classrooms, and in the gardens at playtime."
