Castle Cary Community Primary School has been awarded the nationally recognised Online Safety Mark.

The prestigious Online Safety Mark is only awarded to those schools that have demonstrated best practice in safeguarding their children online, by achieving the national benchmark levels in 360 Degree Safe.

The Internet Safety Charity SWGfL, a not-for-profit charity ensuring everyone can benefit from technology free from harm, gave the school the Online Safety Mark.

The primary school is one of only 400 schools across the UK to receive the prestigious Online Safety Mark.

Following the visit, the Assessor noted: "The leadership by the Online Safety Lead of a highly effective Online Safety committee; the whole-school ethos with shared responsibility for Online Safety: with 'Online Safety being everyone's concern' . There is an effective online safety curriculum and excellent engagement with parents through regular communication, a high visibility of Online Safety around the school and a rapid response to issues mentioned by parents."

Congratulating the school on their achievement, David Warburton, Member of Parliament for Somerton and Frome, said: "I'm delighted to congratulate Castle Cary Community Primary School on receiving the Online Safety Mark. As one of only four hundred schools in the UK, this is a huge achievement, and I'm thrilled that the school has been rewarded for their exceptional due diligence and efforts in keeping our children safe online".

"I know that SWGfL reserves The Online Safety Mark for schools which demonstrate only the very highest levels of practice in keeping children safe online, and I hope Castle Cary Community Primary School can be an example for other local schools who I know have also been doing tremendous things in this area".

"The internet has become an invaluable tool to education, proving as an immensely powerful and helpful resource. Naturally there will be content online that is inappropriate for our children, so it's enormously important that our schools, parents and guardians work together to keep children safe".
