A walking festival will be taking place in Shepton Mallet in September.

From Friday, September 9 to Sunday, September 11, there will be a number of guided walks around the town, each with a different theme aiming to showcase Shepton's history, scenery and wildlife.

On Friday, September 9 there will be a pub walk – a circular walk starting at the Thatched Cottage pub and heading along the Fosse Way to Bodden.

On the Saturday there will be a "horrible history" family walk based on the history of the town, and a bat walk at dusk.

The final day will see a circular ramble from Shepton to Croscombe via Friars Oven, and a cider/brewing walk taking in important brewing sites in the area and culminating in a tasting with local producers.

The weekend has been organised by Shepton Walks – a voluntary group which aims to "encourage and facilitate people to walk in the area around Shepton Mallet."

Co-Chair Patric ffrench Devitt says, 'We are looking forward to this weekend which will enable local people to take part in local walks and appreciate the different aspects of Shepton's rich history and scenery!"
