Police in Shepton Mallet are stepping up patrols around school entrances following concerns about unsafe parking during drop-off and pick-up times.

Officers have received multiple reports of vehicles blocking pavements and parking dangerously, forcing parents and children onto the road and increasing the risk of accidents.

Reminder to park safely

Authorities are reminding drivers that parking on pavements is illegal and can create serious hazards for pedestrians, wheelchair users, and pushchairs.

A police spokesperson said: "We understand that parking near schools can be difficult at busy times, but our priority is the safety of children and parents. Please allow extra time to find a safe and legal place to park."

Officers will be carrying out regular patrols around schools to monitor the situation and ensure drivers are following parking regulations.

Residents who witness dangerous or illegal parking are encouraged to report it to police by calling 101, allowing officers to target problem areas more effectively.
