Police are appealing for three key witnesses after a woman was forced into a car near Wells.

The incident happened on Tuesday, 30 September, and involved a silver Peugeot 207 that was seen in both Bristol and Coxley. Officers say the woman, in her 30s, was first dragged into the car in Clifton, before the same vehicle was spotted later that evening on the A39 near Wells.

At around that time, the car stopped in Coxley and the victim tried to get away. The man tried to force her back into the car, but drove off when other cars pulled up behind. A short time later, the car was driven at the woman before she was dragged inside again and taken to a small car park on Rowdens Road.

There, she shouted for help from three men nearby. They intervened, and the man ran off. The victim was then driven to safety in a black saloon car.

Detective Constable Kirsty Richards said: "This was a truly shocking series of incidents. We're particularly keen to speak to the brave person who intervened in Bristol, any drivers who saw what happened in Coxley, and the three men who helped the victim in Wells. They could have vital information."

The man and woman are believed to be known to each other and police say there is no wider risk to the public. Officers have reviewed CCTV and carried out house-to-house enquiries.

Anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting reference 5225274967.
