Plans to create tracks for holiday-makers in Stoke St Michael to use for walking, cycling and riding, have been withdrawn.

A planning application for the construction of stoned farm tracks across 35 hectares of agricultural farm land, to also be used for walking, cycling and bridleways (part retrospective) at Cookswood, Bector Lane, Stoke St Michael, had been submitted to Mendip District Council by Warrack Massey.

The application's primary function was to grant ease of access to fields that are to remain as arable farmland, for machinery access.

The tracks would also have be used privately for walking, cycling and bridal ways, for visitors from the Cookswood holiday retreat.

Some fields were allocated for open green communal space, habitat enhancement and play areas, with improved landscaping and biodiversity enhancement, but the plans have now been withdrawn.

Other planning applications in the Shepton Mallet area that have been decided by Mendip District Council this week include:

Application for approval of reserved matters following outline approval 2020/0658/OTS for the erection of a single dwelling and associated access; matters of appearance, landscaping, layout and scale to be determined at Albany Cottage, Underhill to Marchants Hill, Gurney Slade, by Mr A Hillman has been approved.

Application to vary condition 14 (Drainage - Infiltration Testing) of planning approval 2018/2570/FUL (proposed conversion and extension of existing agricultural barns to form a new farm shop and associated cafe; and new access arrangements and parking) to alter the Pre-Commencement element of the condition at Lodge Hill Manor, Pound Lane to Merehead Quarry, Downhead, by Howard Yeoman has been approved.

Application for approval of details reserved by condition 5/part (archaeology) on planning consent/listed building consent 2020/0732/FUL at 26 Linkmead, Fosse Way, Stratton-on-the-Fosse, by Mr Scott Stephens has been approved.

Fitting a new door across an existing barn door opening at Hollyhocks, Church Lane, East Lydford, by Debbie Smith has been approved.

Application for a non-material amendment to permission 2016/1748/HSE for single-storey rear extension and erection of a two-storey rear and single-storey side extension; erection of a detached garage/entertainment annexe and pergola/walk linking the cottage to the annexe at Keepers Cottage, Withy Wood Lane, Cranmore, by Adrian Barlow has been refused.
