Plans to convert barns in East Compton into five homes are approved

Plans to convert barns in East Compton into five homes have been given the go-ahead by Mendip District Council.

A planning application for prior approval for the change of use of agricultural buildings to five dwellinghouses (use Class C3) comprising four smaller dwellings and a larger dwelling at the land and buildings formerly known as Gough House Farm, East Compton, had been submitted by Mr and Mrs Gibson.

The site consists of numerous agricultural buildings used for the rearing and housing of dairy heifers and young stock, and there are associated buildings for the storage of fodder and machinery.

The land surrounding the buildings incorporates concrete yards for cattle and concrete bunkers for ensiling silage, and there is also a slurry storage facility. The site is accessed by a track from the A361.

The buildings will be converted into one five-bedroom property, two three-bedroom homes and two two-bedroom homes.

Planning applications in the Shepton Mallet area that have been submitted to Mendip District Council this week include:

Internal alterations including removal of studwork, brick and stone walls, insertion of steel support beam, creation of door opening between house and garage at Pilton Stores, Higher Westholme Road, Pilton, are wanted by M FitzGerald and S Taylor.

Change of use of agricultural land associated with existing B1and B8 use for external yards for B1 and B8 use (scaffolding products) and for business storage (containers) (part-retrospective) on land next to the Business Park, Wayside Farm, Evercreech, has been applied for by Mr D Banks.

Works to a tree in a Conservation Area T1 (lime) - fell are wanted at The Old Workshop, Zion Hill, Oakhill.

Works to trees in a Conservation Area 4068 - hawthorn - fell, 4071 - holly - fell, 4072 - Choicea - fell, 4073 and 4074 - apple - crown lift by 1m, 4077 - willow - repollard to previous points at The Old Hall, Church Street, Croscombe, have been applied for by Mrs Lauren Timms.

Application for approval of details reserved by conditions 3 (materials), 4 (surface water drainage), 6 (invasive non-native species protocol), 9 (provision of bat box), 10 (European protected species mitigation licence), 12 (arboricultural method statement), 13 (nesting bird protection), 14 (archaeology watching brief) on planning consent 2020/2177/FUL has been made at Fosse House Nursing Home, South Street, Stratton-on-the-Fosse.

Application for approval of details reserved by conditions 3 (materials) on listed building consent 2021/0776/LBC at Eagle House, The Street, Chilcompton, has been made by David Naish.

Planning applications in the Shepton Mallet area that have been decided by Mendip District Council this week include:

Erection of a four-bedroom dwellinghouse at Pipers Pool, Wells Road, Chilcompton, has been approved.

Installation of driveway gates at Dyers Cottage, Long Street, Croscombe, by Mr John Turner has been refused.

Application for approval of details reserved by conditions 3 (joinery details), 4 (materials), 5 (sample panel), 6 (ducts, pipes, rainwater goods) and 14 (tree protection plan) on planning consent 2018/3021/FUL at Tashmere, 33 Cowl Street, Shepton Mallet, by Mr Sonny Bridgeman has been approved.

Application for approval of details reserved by conditions 3 (surface water drainage system), 4 (foundation design), 5 (external lighting) on planning consent 2019/1827/FUL on land at South Rock Industrial Estate, Chilcompton, by Mr R Thorner has been approved.

Conversion of existing building to office (use Class E) on land next to 857 Fosse Way, Pylle, has been approved.

Single-storey front and side extension at 31 Whitstone Rise, Shepton Mallet, by Mrs Charlet Martin has been approved.

Prior approval for change of use of agricultural building to a dwellinghouse (use Class C3) and for associated operational development at Higher Bodden Farm, Bodden Lane, Bodden, by Mr W Davis has been given.

Prior approval for change of use of agricultural building to a dwellinghouse (use Class C3) on land at Summerhill Lane, West Compton, by Mr J Morris-Adams has been granted.
