Plans for three homes to be built in Leigh-on-Mendip have been turned down by Mendip District Council.

An application for outline planning permission with some matters reserved for the building of three dwellings with details of access at Corner Cottage, Quarry Lane, Leigh-on-Mendip, had been submitted by Miss R Cole.

The proposal was to build the three new homes in a paddock attached to Corner Cottage, made up of two semi-detached three-bedroom properties, and one detached four-bedroom house, each with four parking spaces.

However, in refusing the application, the planning officer's report said: "The application has failed to adequately demonstrate the presence or otherwise of protected species (bats and reptiles) on the site and how they or their habitat will be protected or enhanced.

"Accordingly, there is a significant risk that the development would have a harmful impact on protected species and would result in the net loss of biodiversity.

"Inadequate information has been submitted to demonstrate that an acceptable surface water drainage solution can be achieved to prevent flood risk and ensure adequate pollution control of

watercourses."
