A new recreation area could soon be created at Leigh on Mendip.

Plans to change the use of a piece of land next to the existing Recreation Field from agricultural to recreational have been given the go-ahead by Mendip planners.

The parcel of land which is the subject of this application was bought by Leigh on Mendip Parish Council (the PC) with funds provided by a S106 agreement. The agreement was negotiated by Mendip District Council to provide compensation for the loss of open space caused by the building of a row of houses known as Apple Meadow View. The PC negotiated the purchase of the land after consultation with the community. In accordance with the consultation results, the PC decided to use the money to provide allotments and additional recreation opportunities.

The plans include play equipment for older children (the current equipment is suitable for younger children only), nearby seating, fitness equipment, and wildlife friendly planting.
