A person was trapped in their vehicle after crashing into a ditch at a crossroads near Shepton Mallet early this morning.

At just after 2am today (October 18) two fire appliances from Shepton Mallet and the Heavy Rescue Vehicle from Glastonbury were sent to a report of a road traffic collision at the crossroads where the B3139 meets the B3135, known locally as Whitnell Corner or Burnt Wood Crossroads.

On arrival, crews confirmed that one vehicle was off the road in a ditch with one person still inside.

Liaising with paramedics, crews released the casualty by removing the roof of the vehicle using hydraulic cutting equipment and stabilisation equipment.
