The latest Whitstone School survey shows that parents are delighted with the way the Shepton Mallet school is performing during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The survey was sent to all of the students' parents, asking their opinions of how the school is performing with delivering online learning, school to home communication and student safety.

Head teacher, Guy Swallow, said: "Thank you to everyone who took the time to respond - we have had some very supportive replies from parents, which is a huge boost to the teaching and support staff here, who are all working extremely hard to deliver the highest standard of education to our students, while also keeping them safe.

"The response from parents has been overwhelmingly positive."

One parent wrote: "(We have) nothing but praise for an amazing school and equally amazing staff who has made my son's first few months so good.

"Stay safe and thanks so much to each and every one of you for your hard work."

Another said: "Excellent teachers who provide great quality teaching who have been there for the children and the parents throughout this difficult time."

When asked specifically to rate the quality of online learning provision, nine out of ten parents rated it either very good or excellent.

One parent said: "We couldn't be more pleased with how excited and interested our child is in his learning."

Parents also seem very happy with the quality of communication from the school, with nine out of ten rating the school's communication during the pandemic as at least 'very good'.

Whitstone School's safety measures also scored very highly, with 100 per cent of parents saying they feel their child is kept safe by staff at school.

In response to feedback to the survey, the school has decided to investigate ways to make some of the lessons even more creative and practical.

Staff are also looking at ways of providing more feedback to parents and students about the work being submitted, and say they will update parents on this as soon as they are able to.

More of the positive comments from parents include: "We are more than happy with the education our children are receiving at Whitstone.

"They are both doing really well there so far, despite the disruption of the pandemic. Well done Whitstone."

Mr Swallow said: "We are very fortunate to have such a supportive school community.

"Parents and carers are doing a brilliant job at home, helping their children with their studies. Still, we are very much looking forward to having the students back in school as soon as it is safe to do so, so that we can continue to give them the best quality education that they deserve."
