The organisers of this weekend's NASS Festival at the Bath and West Showground, near Shepton Mallet, have responded to concerns raised about yesterday's traffic issues.

Concerns were raised on behalf of local residents by Mendip district councillor Barry O'Leary, particularly over the amount of traffic, the management of traffic flow, and the behaviour of revellers heading to the festival.

In response, a spokesman for the NASS Festival organisers said: "We were aware of the slow moving traffic in the local area yesterday and worked with police and traffic marshals to get the queue moving as quickly as possible.

"We thank the local residents for their patience and apologise for any inconvenience caused. We strongly encourage anyone travelling from the train station to use the shuttle bus service provided, and to respect our neighbours."

Cllr O'Leary said: "I'd urge people on here to log the issues with the event directly, by calling 01749 988364 or mail [email protected].

"Obviously the event proper has not started. The event is licensed for up to 30,000 people, with conditions, and the organisers know they must follow these and be a good neighbour.

"If later you do have an issue with noise during the event please contact them to try to resolve first, and then Mendip via 0300 303 8588, [email protected] or www.mendip.gov.uk/environmentalcomplaints."
