Mid-Somerset Show brings rural charm and family fun to Shepton Mallet
The Mid-Somerset Show, the largest free admission event of its kind in the UK, took place yesterday in Shepton Mallet, offering a fun-packed day for all the family.
Known as one of the South West's most respected agricultural events, the show drew in large crowds who enjoyed a wide range of activities, exhibitions, and competitions.
Visitors to the show were treated to an array of livestock competitions, including sheep, pigs, and cattle classes, as well as impressive equine events and show jumping. While poultry classes were absent this year, the ever-popular Somerset Cider Championships and the Cheese Awards remained highlights of the event, showcasing some of the region's best produce. The show also featured a Honey Show and a colourful Flower & Veg Show, alongside a Floral Art Show that impressed with its creative displays.
For those interested in home crafts, the marquees were buzzing with baking, handicraft, photography, art, and children's classes, all demonstrating the talent and creativity of the local community. The Open Dog Show and the Fun Dog Show also brought joy to many, as four-legged friends competed in a variety of categories.
Elsewhere on the grounds, attendees were entertained by a variety of live displays and performances. The Sheep Show and terrier racing brought traditional agricultural charm, while the Bird of Prey display and Shetland Pony Racing offered thrilling spectacles. The Horse Jumping Team Relay added to the equestrian excitement, and the Paws for Thought Dog Display Team impressed with their agility and tricks.
The show wasn't just about animals—rural craft displays and the Cookery Demonstration attracted a crowd, as did the acoustic stage, which provided a relaxing backdrop of live music. With a wide selection of trade stands offering food, handmade crafts, and shopping, there was something for everyone to enjoy.
The Mid-Somerset Show once again proved to be a fantastic day out, full of family fun, local traditions, and the very best of rural life.
As one of the most anticipated events in the local calendar, it offered visitors a chance to celebrate the region's agricultural heritage while enjoying a host of modern-day entertainment.
