Sam Phripp has won the Mendip Hills Somerset Council by-election, taking the vacant seat with 1,534 votes.

Sam Phripp has been elected to Somerset Council after winning the Mendip Hills by-election held on Thursday, 7 May 2026.

The Liberal Democrat candidate secured 1,534 votes to take the vacant seat in the two-seat Mendip Hills division.

The result was:

  • Sam Phripp (Liberal Democrat) — 1,534 votes
  • Greg Stone (Reform UK) — 936 votes
  • Nicola Perold (Conservative) — 724 votes
  • Victoria Welsh (Green Party) — 330 votes
  • Abi McGuire (Independent) — 107 votes
  • Terry Ledlie (Labour) — 64 votes

Turnout was 46.75 per cent.

Eight ballot papers were rejected.

The by-election was held to fill a vacant seat on Somerset Council in the Mendip Hills division.
