This year marks an exceptional milestone for Melhuish and Saunders.

The building firm, which was based in Shepton Mallet between 2000 and 2009, is celebrating an illustrious 100-year legacy.

The company has been delving into nostalgia, sharing their favourite projects that spotlight their reputation for excellence and innovative practices.

The Somerset Earth Science Centre

The Somerset Earth Science Centre was named as a favourite project by two of the team.

The building - a purpose-built study centre set in beautiful surroundings in the Mendip Hills, provides inspirational and engaging learning experiences for schools, colleges and universities. It is a beacon of pioneering energy-efficient design and remains one of the firm's most distinguished accomplishments.

Darryl Mitchard, the managing director and a stalwart at Melhuish and Saunders, fondly recounts this project, saying that it symbolised a shift towards environmentally-conscious building at a time when 'green' structures were just beginning to gain momentum.

Senior Estimator Robin, an invaluable member of the company since December 2005, is also proud of the work they carried out on the same project. He saw the centre's evolution from conception to completion, praising its aesthetically pleasing design and captivating location.

The new pavilion at Norman Scott Park

The new pavilion at Norman Scott Park resonates deeply with Quantity Surveyor Dai. Joining the team in February 2022, Dai had a first-hand experience of Melhuish and Saunders' commitment to consistency and quality control, accompanying the project from site visit to handover.

Dewey Waters' project stands out for Derek, another experienced Quantity Surveyor with the firm since August 2014. He took part in this endeavour from the tender stage through to completion, making it a truly immersive experience.

The move to their new hub at Landmark House in 2009, housing an array of thriving businesses, is another standout moment, for the team, as is the construction and ongoing expansion of the Beacons Medical Centre initiated seven years ago.

RSPCA South Cotswolds' animal rehoming and rehabilitation centre

The firm's ability to tackle a diverse range of projects is evidenced by their work on historical sites like Charlton House, where they added a new orangery and kitchen in 2002, multiple assignments at St. Mary's School, Calne, and the construction of the RSPCA South Cotswolds' animal rehoming and rehabilitation centre in 2016.

Their portfolio also boasts of more recent local ventures like the Middlewick Cafe in Glastonbury and the impressive National Catering Equipment Centre.

Melhuish and Saunders' centenary celebration is a testament to their enduring commitment to quality, dedication, and innovation. The buildings they have brought to life and the clients they have served all contribute to a legacy that they are proud to uphold.
