Medal haul for Shepton Mallet Gymnastics Club

There was another victory for Shepton Mallet Gymnastics Club in a recent floor and vault competition.

The club travelled to Bristol with 24 gymnasts as young as six years old up to 14, from intermediate level to advanced plus, bringing home an outstanding 27 medals which included 11 golds, 10 silver and six bronze.

Starting off the day were the club's youngsters in the under seven-year-old age group. Alfie McCulloch started off the club's medal haul with golds for all disciplines and overall Champion, while team mate Hazel McEntee took silver overall, silver on floor and bronze for her powerful vault performance.

In the advanced 10 plus age group Joshua Seager also took centre stage taking home silver in vault and bronze on floor, also silver overall champion to top off his day.

Emily Collins was also on the podium with her team mate and for Emily this was her first competition for Shepton GC taking a well deserved bronze overall, bronze on vault and a perfect performance on floor which achieved a gold medal.

The club also had excellent performances from the eight year old category with a sea of medals. Joint first overall medals went to Ava Cox and Elsie Seager, silver Florence Cox and bronze to Lottie Cavill.

Vault results included Ava getting gold, Florence silver and Elsie bronze. Floor results included Elsie getting gold and silver for Ava.

New recruit, Freya Hare, bounced her way to two silver medals on vault and as overall champion in the advanced level category.

Florrie Walker had an amazing performance throughout the day with three gold medals which included overall champion and team mate Summer Stevens took home a silver with an outstanding vault performance.

All 24 gymnasts who took part throughout the day did the club proud, for many this was their first competition and is a perfect stepping stone for their future in sport and in life.
