A 38-year-old man was left with broken and fractured ribs following an assault in Shepton Mallet on Sunday, 17 November.

The incident occurred around 4.30pm in Hitchin Lane, a pedestrian alleyway connecting Queens Road and The Sidings.

According to police, the victim was attacked by two men, described as white and in their late teens. The offenders punched and kicked the man before fleeing towards The Sidings and the town centre.

The victim required hospital treatment for his injuries, which included fractured ribs.

Police are now appealing for witnesses and urging residents to check their CCTV or doorbell cameras for any footage that might assist in identifying the attackers.

"If you have information which could help, please call us on 101 and quote reference number 5224303201," a spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said.

Hitchin Lane is a well-used route in Shepton Mallet, and police are hopeful that someone may have seen or captured something that could help with their investigation.

Residents are reminded to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity in the area.
