Four fire crews, including a team from Shepton Mallet were called to a two vehicle high speed collision at Long Street in Dinder late last night (February 5).

At least one person was trapped inside each vehicle and so fire engines from Wells and Shepton Mallet and a Heavy Rescue Tender from Glastonbury were quickly mobilised to the incident location.

Upon arrival, fire officers got to work stabilising the vehicles with specialised equipment and began efforts to release the casualties using hydraulic cutting equipment.

A fourth fire engine was then requested for additional cutting equipment, this was mobilised from Glastonbury.

The two casualties were successfully removed from each vehicle using hydraulic cutting equipment and roof removal of one vehicle. Once crews had released both of them the ambulance service took over and were both taken to hospital.
