Get your forks at the ready, Wells Food Festival is coming to town this Sunday, October 13, from 10.30am to 4.30pm and with free entry.

The Artisan Market has always been at the heart of the festival, and it is stronger than ever this year with more than 175 of the county's finest artisan producers and street food sellers taking stalls – including several award-winning producers from the Shepton Mallet area.

Worley's Cider, from Dean near Shepton Mallet, will be there with its award-winning Special Reserve Keeved Cider. Having been awarded three stars at the recent Great Taste Awards (GTA), it was also presented with the GTA prestigious Golden Fork Heritage Award and crowned Champion Cider at this year's Taste of the West 2019.

Worley Cider's managing director, Neil Worley, said: "We'll have our full bar open in the Market Place at Wells Food Festival. Come and try some award-winning cider and say hello."

White Lake, in Bagborough near Shepton Mallet, was also awarded stars for its cheese at the GTA, including three stars for its local Guernsey milk cheese, Morn Dew, which is no mean feat as only 208 products received this accolade out of 13,000 entries from 100 countries.

Last year's winner of Best Preserves Stall at the festival, Hembridge Organics who are based just outside of Shepton, will be returning.

Their Raspberry Jam recently won a BOOM award (Best of Organic Market) organised by the Soil Association.

Kerry Dodd, jam maker and owner of Hembridge Organics, said: "All our preserves are made from gluts, over ripe and unloved organic produce.

"To win national awards really shows that delicious food can be made from produce that is just normally wasted."

Kerry will be launching a new seedless Blackberry Jam at the festival, described as "autumn in a jar".

Festival organiser, Jon Abbott, said: "It's win, win.

"The festival offers producers a new audience for their products and for visitors an ideal opportunity to try new food and ingredients – including some national award winners."
